would i be covered on my friends car insurance if i am driving?

Len Dalba: Insurance goes with the car, no matter who is driving. Except, all licensed drivers, that drive that car, have to be on the policy. Also, your friends dad's policy may not cover anyone under a certain age. So it is possible that his insurance would not cover you. Let me restate that: If you were to cause an accident with another vehicle, his insurance would probably cover the damage to the other vehicle, but it may not cover the damage to his vehicle, and then they may drop him as a customer. In any case, his dad doesn't want you to drive the car, so don't....Show more

Alden Soldano: it depends on your and his insurance company. You need to read the policy, or sit down and call the agent and talk it over and look and see what it says on the policy. Generally who ever owns the car is responsible for keeping insurance on it. If he lets somone borrow it occasionally who is an insured license driver (which means you own your own car and pay insurance) t! hen you should be covered, IN case of an accident, the registered owners insurance would be primary, and your insurance would be secondary (if for some reason the primary did not pay the claim) It is in yours and his best interest to find this out, all it takes is a phone call to the agent....Show more

Mitchel Demry: Generally speaking, your friends' insurance will cover anyone he authorizes to operate the vehicle. That's the way it's always been as far as I can remember, and should be the same with respect to you allowing anyone to drive your car as well- your insurance should cover that driver.

Barton Morfee: Typically, auto insurance will cover the driver, not the car. So, if you have your own insurance policy, then the coverage you're paying for would apply to any car your drive. If you crash your friends car and only have liability, you're responsible and the insurance company won't pay a dime. Be careful out there. Either get yourself some decent insur! ance, or don't drive anyone's car but your own.
