Timmy Bustard: Thats a broad question. First off, realize that India's clothing styles have never been dictated by fashion as much as tradition. "Fashion" as a form of clothing experimentation is very much a western phenomenon. Standing out through clothing has always been achieved by expensiveness of the clothing and by jewelry. As far as the changing clothing styles, it has been driven by two factors:1. foreign invasion over the centuries (ex. large scale muslim invasions around 1000 AD introduced tailored salwaar-style clothing to the local pop)2. caste and religious affiliation- used to be big, not so much anymore...Show more
